Johnny Cash dies
This has been a sad sad week for music. First Warren Zevon, [now Johnny Cash.](http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030912/ap_on_en_mu/obit_cash_10) The first concert I ever saw was Johnny Cash. I went with my dad to a semi-outdoor venue in Vancouver (Expo Theatre – it’s gone now). It was a fantastic show, although I barely knew any of the music – I was only 11 or 12 years old. He was a fantastic entertainer, an excellent storyteller, and he’s had a stunning career.
His final CD, The Man Comes Around is his best work in years. It may be his most autobiographical release, even though the majority of the songs are covers. The age and raw power of his voice comes though so clearly in the songs.
I don’t know what else I can say here: how can someone eulogise a legend? One of the greats is no longer with us. His shoes are too big to be filled.
