RIP: Warren Zevon 1947-2003
Total legend Warren Zevon [died of cancer Sunday at age 56](http://launch.yahoo.com/read/news.asp?contentID=214565) . An extraordinary songwriter, excellent singer and observer of human life, his songs were some of the few that could make me **feel** something. I’m particularly thinking of *Don’t Let Us Get Sick* , which is made all the more poignant now. His cover of *Back in the High Life Again* is one of my all-time favourite cover tunes: he turns an upbeat rah-rah-rah song into a cynical skewering of “fame” and “success”.
If you only ever knew him as that guy who plays Warewolves of London , you really owe it to yourself (and to his memory) to investigate some of the rest of his work. If you at all appreciate the humour in cynicism, his work will speak to you like no other.
Rest in peace, Warren. Thank you for the music.
