Airships!
I love airships (although not as much as my friend [Bill, the Man Out Of Time](http://www.manoutoftime.org/) ). Therefore, I’m glossing over any kind of potential technical or environmental shortfalls of this idea and proclaiming it the coolest thing I’ve heard in a very long time. Naturally *The Register* has the scoop: [Broadband delivered via airships.](http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/22/34992.html) Too dern cool.
The basic idea is float a bunch of airships a little ways up in the sky and beam broadband down to the Earth from there. They’d be relatively cheap, and able to cover large distances. How do we avoid them just kinda floating away though? The magic roving broadband balloons. “Sorry, my broadband’s flaky today, it’s windy and there are no airships in the area…”
Oh, and extra points are awarded because they came up with the idea in an Italian café. Good on ya.
