Helpless
I’m sitting in my apartment near Melbn, listening to a [great Canadian singer](http://www.kdlang.com/) sing a [great Canadian song,](http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/lang-k-d/helpless-neil-young-13481.html) watching the US election results come in through the [BBC website,](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/americas/2004/vote_usa_2004/default.stm) and getting more and more depressed about it all.
Big birds flying across the sky
Throwing shadows in our eyes
Leaves us helpless, helpless, helpless
, helpless, helpless.
It’s amazing how divided the world is about this election. Very few non-Americans want to see a world terrorised by Bush II, but it seems that more than half of the US wants to see another term for the man. The rest of the world has to sit by, unable to do anything but click “Reload” on their web browsers, and listen to sad songs.
Even after Bush II’s government said there weren’t any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, 72% of Bush supporters still believed that they had some. Furthermore, 56% assumed that the Bush II government found that Iraq “had at least a major WMD program”. Astounding. And these are the people who are deciding the fate of the world. Follow that link for even scarier statistics.
While the US may get the government it deserves, the rest of the world has to suffer, helplessly.
Baby will you sing with me somehow,
, helpless, helpless.
, helpless, helpless.
I’m singing along.
