Great icewine
Low temperatures in BC over the past week or so has resulted in one of the best ice wine crops in quite some time. Basically, the grapes are left to freeze on the vine, naturally concentrating the flavour, and giving the final product a sweet taste, without being overly sticky. BC is the most reliable producer of icewine, generally being able to get some out every year. Germany, where the technique originated, can only do a batch every few years.
We opened a 23-year-old bottle of German icewine on New Year’s Eve. Blew everyone away – very few people down here have even heard of the stuff.
