Yet another reason to move to Adelaide
When I was last in Adelaide, my dialup Internet access decided not to work for me, so I went out looking for an Internet cafe or wireless hotspot. I kept seeing a wireless network called “citilan”, which was running unencrypted and unprotected. Taking that as an invitation, I connected to it. Nothing happened. I tried pinging things, still nothing happened. After a few minutes of fussing around, I gave up and headed for a terminal in a public library.
Today, I read on Slashdot that citilan is open, and running free now. Anyone in central Adelaide can have free Internet access. All this, and close to damn good wine. Adelaide 2, Melbn 0.
