RIAA and MPAA join Internet2

There goes the neighbourhood.

Having been thwarted by the distributed and somewhat anonymous design of our current Internet, the MPAA and RIAA have decided that they’ll do whatever it takes to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Our current Internet is designed to route around social problems like censorship and repression in much the same way as it’s supposed to route traffic around a dead router or a cut cable. Technically and socially, it sees what the RIAA and MPAA are doing as censorship, and by and large has routed around them. Hooray for good design!

Internet2 might not be as well designed. The MPAA and RIAA have just crashed the party, and will help the Internet2 people “consider innovative content distribution and digital rights management technologies”. Goody goody gumdrops.
