It’s a race!
A few months ago, around when Intel started shipping the first Core 2 Duo CPUs, I asked the Powers That Be at my employer for some money to buy a C2D based server. “Sure”, they said, “just give me a week or so to arrange things”. I realised it was inevitable that Apple would upgrade their then-current MacBook Pro laptops to use the new C2D chips too. I decided that would be the new laptop for me.
I idly wondered which would arrive first: the server or the laptop. Time passes. A “week or so” tuned into a fortnight, then into a month. Apple kept not announcing anything.
Last Friday, I got official word that money had been secured and it was heading my way. Hurrah! Looks like the server’s going to arrive first, because Apple hasn’t announced an upgrade yet.
On Tuesday, Apple upgraded their machines, and I placed an order. The server hadn’t been ordered yet. So now it looks like the laptop’s going to win. However, the ship date was about two weeks hence. That’s no good.
Yesterday, the server was ordered (I think). Delivery time is about 2-3 days. Now the server is winning.
This morning, I got The Email From Apple telling me the laptop has shipped !
So it’s a race! Technology heading my way from all over! Which one will win out! A server, hand-built here in Melbn, or a laptop, built somewhere in China? I tell you, gentle reader, this is excitement!
It will be a photo finish.
