Help test the PBS streams
In my massive amounts of spare time (sarcasm), I’m working on getting a new streaming and radio on demand system for PBS radio ( http://pbsfm.org.au ). If you have a few minutes, pop one of these streams on in the background. For the moment, you’ll need a stream-playing program like VLC - although the MP3 stream works in iTunes, it sounds like crap. I’m really only including it for compatibility with devices that can’t do AAC and AAC+.
Here are the URLs. You’ll probably have to copy and paste them into your player-of-choice, as your browser probably won’t know what to do with them.
http://eno.melbn.com:8000/pbsfm_live_128.aacp - 128k AAC is beautiful, like honey for the ears. The only thing better, bit for bit, would be 192k AAC. If I made a stream like that, I wouldn’t be able to contain my animalistic urges.
http://eno.melbn.com:8000/pbsfm_live_24.aacp - 24k AAC+ is remarkable. For a tiny 24k stream, it sounds almost as good as…
http://eno.melbn.com:8000/pbsfm_live_64.mp3 - this 64k MP3 stream. It sounds fairly crappy, but you can’t really expect much from a low-bitrate MP3 stream.
I should also mention that the streams may go up and down as I’m testing things on this end, and they’re completely unsupported by PBS. Don’t ring them if something goes wrong.
Feedback on audio quality would be most welcome.
