LET IT DIE: Rushkoff on the economy
The thing that is dying—the corporatized model of commerce—has not, nor has it ever been, supportive of the real economy. It wasn’t meant to be.

Frankly, I don’t know enough about economics to say anything intelligent about Rushkoff’s post. It’s an interesting bunch of words, and parts of it may end up happening. His ideas about a community-based economy are interesting, and comparing our current situation to a Ponzi scheme are eye-opening. Thing is though, I don’t see much changing in the wake of this depression we’re in - there’s too much vested interest in the status quo.
And how does government-controlled inflation factor into Rushkoff’s ideas? As long as we have inflation, prices will go up, making people who sell things (houses, services, widgets) happy. He seems to suggest that governments get out of the money business, but when who will regulate the corporations? They will not go quietly.
The problem with money = power, is that those who have the money have the power to ensure the system that gave them money, will keep giving them money. They have no reason to change, and we’re powerless to stop it.
