Tom Waits Library
I was looking for some Tom Waits lyrics earlier this morning, a specific bit called “Spare Parts II and Closing” off “Nighthawks at the Diner” (one of my favourites). He basically starts off by introducing his wonderful band, then starts rambling on about clothing. It’s a great way to end a record. None of the other lyrics sites had anything, but one place had EVERYTHING. The has to be one of the best, most complete, and interesting fansites I’ve ever seen. It also helps that I’m a big fan of the subject matter.
http://tomwaitslibrary.com/ Not only did it have lyrics for pretty much everything he’s done, the lyrics have FOOTNOTES and links off to other areas of the site. There is a massive anecdote and quote section, a biography and timeline that would probably astound Mr Waits himself, and a well-detailed FAQ.
Speaking of quotes - here’s one that caught my eye, about his wife and collaborator, Kathleen Brennan. It’s classic Waits, and truly beautiful. “She doesn’t like the limelight, but she is an incandescent presence on everything we work on together.“
