Who is YOUR customer?

Asked whether x86 is a “significant event” in the mobile roadmap, Bach said: “We have a pretty good handle on the x86 environment and we can make a business decision based on volume and our operator customers are looking for.

Buried in this article about a Zune Phone (no), is a very interesting quote from Robbie Bach, the entertainment and devices chief at Microsoft. Interesting in that he seems to see the mobile network operators as their customer, rather than the actual users of the phones. Apple’s strategy with the iPhone, as I see it, is to treat the users of the phone as the customer. So you know when Apple and Microsoft talk about being “customer focussed”, they’re probably talking about two entirely different groups of people.

Now, business owners: Who is your customer? Is it the same customer as your competitor? Does it have to be?
