Apple looks to fix bothersome beeps in MacBook Pros

MacBook Pro owners plagued with annoying hard drive beeps and clicks have not yet had Apple publicly address their issue, but as the number of complaints continues to swell, reports suggest the Mac-maker is quietly working on a fix.

The first hard drive I received with this MacBook Pro didn’t have a beepy-clicky issue at all, until the day it failed. Then, all it would DO is beep and click. Not good.

The replacement hard drive gets into fits of beeping and clicking, during which all disk access grinds to a halt. My guess (which is backed up by the research in the linked article) was that the drive was freaking out in some kind of way (motion sensor? sure.) and parking its heads. Repeatedly. While this kind of behaviour isn’t directly bad for the drive, it does probably lead to more wear and tear. I hope Apple releases a fix for this soon. I don’t want another hard drive disaster.
