Roger Ebert reminds everyone why he won the Pulitzer

Maybe that’s why I enjoy this blog. You don’t realize it, but we’re at dinner right now.

Roger Ebert is a god of cinema. Even after I moved away from his realm of influence, I still hold that his reviews are the only ones worth reading. I may not agree with all of them, but the argument is certainly worth having. In fact, I make it a point to read his reviews *after* watching the films. It provides an analysis of the film that I may have missed when watching it myself. His review of “Trois Coleurs: Rouge” was nearly as good as the film itself was - and that’s saying a hell of a lot.

Recently, he’s been through a number of medical procedures, leaving him unable to speak, and also eat and drink. The above-linked story is a meditation on eating, drinking and socialising. Read it as if you’re having lunch with him.
