Very, very basic eatery
Base Eatery, Geelong: It was in the Good Food Guide! It wouldn’t be \*bad\*, would it? Well yes. Yes, it would. Helped along by the Mystery Bug on the ceiling and the misspelt “burre blanc” on the menu, the generally over-salted and over-priced food was far too try-hard and wannabe wanky. When my partner sent back her fish as being too cold, it came back just as cold - with the same chips and salad as it was sent in with. We knew this because the chip she took a bite out of was still there, but it was deep fried again, along with all the rest of the chips. My heirloom tomato salad was okay, but the tomato didn’t really taste like much.
And the killer blow? Even after the waiter apologised for the problems in the kitchen (which, admittedly, he did well), nothing was removed from our bill. Judging by the markups on the wine, they really could have afforded to shout us a free drink for the trouble.
