Myki does not calculate the cheapest possible fare for you

‘Myki takes all that out, because myki does the calculations for you,“ she said. [Myki spokeswoman Jean Ker Walsh] told> The Sunday Age > that the smartcard system calculated the cheapest possible fare based on where and when a myki card was swiped.

Wrong wrong wrong. It most certainly does not do this.

Myki users face the confusing choice of buying either “Myki money”, where dollar amounts are applied to individual trips; or “Myki passes”, where trips are bundled together in an “all you can eat” fashion for a week, a month or a year.

The system does not automatically figure out which style of Myki should be used for any period of time. The user has to choose. A system that “does the calculations for you” would be able to figure out how paying for trips individually measures up to paying for a pass. Myki does not do that.
