Public Transport Woes Hurt Labor In 2010 Election
The government pretended that the problem was with the French franchisees, not the system itself. But it was apparent to anybody who cared to look that the problem stemmed essentially from the fact that no single entity was in charge of the network. At its most basic level, there was a lack of co-ordination of timetabling between trains, trams and buses. Tendering new franchises couldn’t address the central problem.

While I don’t disagree that the public transport question was a contributing factor to Labo(u)r, I don’t think it was the only thing. Some nice lines in this column though, and a good summary of the clusterfuck that is the Victoria’s privatised rail network. Let’s hope the new guy can fix it.
