One month of hair
I don’t think I like hair very much. I’ve always done interesting things with the stuff on my head - I’ve been nearly every colour of the rainbow, and have had some interesting cuts as well. But I think my preference would be to have none at all. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like genetics will be very co-operative in that regard . At the beginning of November, I shaved off a whole bunch of hair. Head, face, underarms and other bits you probably don’t want to know about (but will, if you keep reading). I didn’t do anything about arm and leg hair, and my eyebrows were left alone. I didn’t want to look like a tall, white version of Whoopi Goldberg. People would get us mixed up all the time - I wouldn’t be able to deal with the paparazzi.
The point of this exercise? It was for science. I wanted to know if body hair grows at different rates in different spots. And guess what? It does! And there were more variations than I’d originally thought there would be. For example, I thought neck-beard-hair would grow at the same rate as chin-hair. Not so! They were almost on opposite ends of the spectrum. And I’d assumed pubes would be fairly slow going, but I was completely wrong on that one. And now the results:
Chin: 0.7cm
Back of head: 0.8cm
Moustache: 0.8cm
Cheek: 1.0cm
Top of head: 1.0cm
Underarms: 1.2cm
Neck: 1.2cm
Pubes: 1.5cm So, on my body at least, pubes are the undisputed champions, running way ahead of the neck (no, that image doesn’t work for me either). Chin hair, while the poorest performing in terms of length, more than made up for it with density and pokiness. Also of note is the different lengths of top-of-head hair and back-of-head hair.
I’ll spare you the photos. It’s better that way.
